The Camera

My focus is the relationship between space and social interaction. For me architecture is both a form and an experience and to depict this, space and light play a profound role in my work.

The photographs from STAMERS KONTOR by Laura Stamer selected here on arcspace show how Laura Stamer works with strong colors, contrasts and dynamic composition to literally draw the viewer’s gaze into the architectural space. Her focus is to show the tactility of the architecture and its spaces letting them unfold in a rarely seen playful manner.

Whether the assignment is to document a process or to communicate a sensory experience – being trained as both photographer and architect – the overall take is a fundamental architectural approach on integrating detail with an in-depth understanding of both concept and composition of the building through photography.

Taastrup Theatre by COBE

In addition to a strong composition, it is essential to me that the architecture photography is open to the playful or spontaneous. Something you as a viewer can grasp and instantly understand. Like the girls at the Herlev Station, or the boys in front of Taastrup Theatre.

It is my intention to express a sensed experience of architecture where you feel how space and surface interact and play together – or against each other. Thus I work with a focus on texture, colors and the feel of materials – the essential means of architecture.
