Taking a long deserved vacation to relax but can’t quite bear the thought of completely removing yourself from the architecture world? Why not combine both relaxation and architectural thought with some podcasts on Architecture and Design. We’ve listed our favorites here so you can stay up-to-date over your summer break.

Monocle 24: The Urbanist
As part of the Monocle radio network, The Urbanist, presented by Andrew Tuck, is an exploration of the rapid evolution of modern cities and the people who are driving the changes. This weekly podcast looks at many of the most prominent issues in the world such as the refugee crisis, urban sprawl, and spatial segregation through the lens of urbanism and architectural design.

99% Invisible
99% Invisible is about all the thought that goes into the things we don’t think about – the unnoticed architecture and design that shape our world. Roman Mars hosts this weekly exploration into the more niche and nerdy aspects of design from knock-off cities in China, Brutalist Architecture, or the design of flags. If this sounds like something that interests you, you’re not alone. With over 80 million downloads, 99% invisible is one of the most popular podcasts on iTunes.

KCRW’s DnA: Design & Architecture
From your iPod to the Freedom Chair to the Walt Disney Concert Hall, design and architecture shape our world. Twice a week, DnA: Design and Architecture host Frances Anderton explores what matters in our designed world by talking to world leaders in design about the latest in products, fashion, graphics, and architecture plus more.

Archipelago: The Funambulist Magazine’s Podcast
Archipelago proposes and archives one-hour long conversations recorded with numerous transdisciplinary worldwide thinkers whose work is related to the built environment. Although the object of focus of Archipelago is the built environment, its philosophy, its politics, its history and its narratives, the conversations are done with many non-architect thinkers (philosophers, activists, dancers, geographers, legal theorists, artists, crafts(wo)men, historians, designers, filmmakers, anthropologists, scientists) whose different approaches enrich the diversity and openness of the podcast.

Archispeak
Archispeak is a casual conversation about everything in the architecture profession, both the good and the bad. Go inside the industry with architects Cormac Phalen, Neal Pann, and Evan Troxel, as they cover everything from the practical and the topical (drawing, 3D modelling, how to deal with clients, the underrepresentation of women in the field) to the offbeat (ways famous architects have died, architecture questions from third graders). It’s a fortnightly podcast and is highly recommended.

The Architecture Happy Hour
The Architecture Happy Hour is hosted by HPD Architecture principals Laura and Larry who share tips and topics on architecture, from how to choose the right architect to what interns can do to be successful as they begin their careers. This informal discussion on architecture is aimed towards design professionals, clients and architecture students and is published twice a month.
